What is Fatty Liver Disease?
Fatty liver disease is a condition where excess fat builds up in the liver. It is increasingly common in India due to rising rates of obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. There are two main types: non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and alcoholic fatty liver disease (AFLD). NAFLD is the most common liver disorder in India.
Fatty liver disease can progress to more serious conditions such as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) now referred to as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), cirrhosis, and liver cancer. Early detection and lifestyle changes are crucial for prevention and management.
